Nikola’s Father Dies Unhappy and Full of Sorrow

After his father’s death, Tesla discovers the secret that made his father so unhappy and sad

We mentioned that Nikola was left puzzled about why his father was so sad and why he didn’t rejoice in his success at the Great School.

One day, when he was in the second year of the Great School, Nikola receives sad news: his father has passed away.

Nikola comes home and buries his father. After the funeral, grieving for him, Nikola collects memories of him. While going through his father’s belongings, he comes across letters that professors from Graz had sent to his father.

He was surprised to find that in those letters, the professors informed his father that Nikola’s health was deteriorating due to excessive work and that he would completely ruin himself if he would continue to work so much. Therefore, they recommended to his father that Nikola should leave school to save his life.

Only then it became clear to Nikola why his father was so sad and why he didn’t rejoice in his success. He understood that his father’s pain was truly overwhelming, as such news must have been devastating to his good paternal heart. And it was indeed the case.

When Nikola was already lost in illness - cholera - he told his father that he would recover if he studied mechanical sciences, which he loved the most. Could his father not approve of that? He did approve, and that decision gave Nikola back his life. Now, Nikola, unable to moderate himself, is on the way to ruin his life.
