Governor Morton Invited to Attend an Exhibition.

ALBANY, April 9. — Frank W. Hawley was here to-day and extended to Gov. Morton an invitation to be present and officiate at the opening of the National Exposition of Electrical Appliances, to be held at the Grand Central Palace, in the city of New York on May 5th.

The Governor’s part in the great event will be the turning on of a current of electricity generated at the Falls of Niagara and transmitted a distance of 472 miles over one of the commercial wires of the Western Union telegraph, the new “Tesla” system of long distance transmission being employed.

The current will operate a large model of the Niagara power plant and a model of the cable-way system of canal boat propulsion. This is the longest transmission of power ever accomplished. The nearest approach to it was a transmission over a line in Europe 110 miles long.

Another feature of the exposition as explained to the Governor will be the placing of a large receiver at the brink of the Falls and a transmitter in the exposition building, enabling those witnessing the application of this mysterious energy to the movement of machinery to hear the roar of the great cataract that produces it.
