-4- which explains the hyperbolic form of the radio navigation system for the storm, Fig. 3. All these possibilities are highly speculative, and, indeed, these would be considerable merit from a scientific point of view in attempting a repeat of Tesla's experiment with the available sophisticated modern equipment. Such equipment is available in our laboratory and if the equipment should at some future date be conveniently located such that extra expense would not be involved, I shall attempt a verification of Tesla's findings. In conclusion, I note that waves propagated around the earth at these frequencies have been observed and recorded but are subject to both ionosphere and ground reflection processes and furthermore tend to take on a "wave guide" type of propagation mode between the earth and the ionosphere at great distances. Also, the attenuation is usually quite high relative to the primary wave such that the possibility of a standing wave around the earth seems rather remote. The attenuation of the ground wave at great distances inside the earth and along the surface of the earth is very great (exponential with respect to distance) as a result of the finite conductivity and diffraction [4]. What is your reaction on the validity of these arguments? Since the standing waves have great scientific value, rather than speculate further, I suggest an experiment near Colorado Springs (at the exact site if possible) to verify Tesla's findings with modern equipment. Such an experiment would of course involve a modest financing. Sincerely, J. Ralph Johler J. Ralph Johler, Electronic Scientist Navigation Systems Section Radio Communication and Systems Division
