Dinner in Tolstoi's Honor

Literary Men Celebrate Seventieth Birthday of the Novelist.

Literary men celebrated the seventieth birthday of Count Leo Tolstoi, the Russian novelist and reformer, by a dinner in the St. Denis last night. Henry M. Leipziger was chairman, and among the guests were Joseph Jefferson, William S. Kane, M. P.; I. Zangwill, Edward Lauterbach, J. Brisben Walker, Richard Watson Gilder, the Rev. Percy S. Grant, the Rev. George Boardman Dana, Alfred H. Love. Professor Dillard, Albert Shaw and R. R. Banker.

A cable message was sent to Count Tolstoi, congratulating him on behalf of his American admirers. Letters of regret were received from Bishop Potter, the Rev. Edward Everett Hale, Donald G. Mitchell, the Rev. Henry M. Field, Professor Francis R. Stoddard, J. Wells Champney, Isaac N. Seligman, Professor Josiah Royce, William Lloyd Garrison, Charles Dudley Warner, Nikola Tesla and the Rev. Lyman Abbott.
