Mr. Townley Heads Electrical Institute

Calvert Townley of this city, assistant to the president of the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, was elected president of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers in the annual balloting recently completed. The result of the voting was announced at the annual meeting of the institute yesterday in the Engineering Building, No. 33 West Thirty-ninth street, when the Edison Medals for 1918 were presented to Benjamin C. Lamme, chief engineer of the Westinghouse company and member of the Naval Consulting Board.

The new president of the institute is a director in various corporations and a member of many scientific societies. He was born in Cincinnati and was graduated from Yale.

Mr. Lamme received an ovation from an audience that filled the auditorium. The Edison Medal was instituted in 1904 by friends of Thomas A. Edison and is awarded each year for meritorious achievement in the electrical field. George Westinghouse, Nikola Tesla and John J. Carty are among its holders. Mr. Tesla was present last evening.
