Destructive Super Death Ray Has Been Perfected
New York, July 11 (U. P.) — Nikola Tesla, pioneer electrical wizard, today announced the invention of a super death ray — a man-made, invisible lighting streak of 50.000.000 volts capable of destroying an army without a trace.
The tall, austere inventor, who lives in a world of scientific marvels incomprehensible to the average mortal, described the terrible power of his new death beam. He said it could:
Cause an army of 1,000,000 men to drop dead in its tracks.
Bring down a fleet of 10,000 airplanes at a distance of 250 miles.
Surround an entire country with an impenetrable, invisible "Chinese wall" making it safe forever against enemy attack.
Arm battleships with a new weapon of defense against hostile airplanes and enable them to sweep the seas.
Yet the death beam could not be utilized in attack, except in a limited way by battleship. Nikola Tesla added, because of the necessity of huge generating stations.
Involves Four Processes
Production of the ray. Nikola Tesla said, involves four new processes.
The first is a method of producing rays in free air, obviating the high vacuum previously necessary; the second is a method of producing "a very great electrical force"; the third, a method of amplifying this force; and the fourth, a new method of producing a tremendous electrical repelling force.
Tesla said he would outline the details of the scientific theories involved before scientific bodies in the near future, and that he planned to place the invention before the Geneva disarmament conference.
