NEW YORK — Nikola Tesla when only 26 conceived the idea of the rotating magnetic field, and he developed the first practical alternating-current motor and generator. He went on to invent the arc light before Edison, and the radio before Marconi. Our electricity system as we know it today is largely the result of his fertile mind.
