They Expect Edison, Tesla and Pupin at Their Convention

Great Barrington, Mass, June 18. — The first detachment of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, who are to hold their annual convention here the present week, arrived by special train from New York. There were 100 engineers in the party. An additional hundred will arrive when the convention will be called to order in the town hall.

The entire early summer colony turned out to meet the engineers at the railway station. There was an interminable procession of carriages and the local committer, comprising the principal citizens of the town, was kept busy assorting the engineers and sending them away to their respective hotels.

The convention will hold morning sessions daily until Saturday, when the engineers will return to New York, on a special train. It is expected that Thomas A. Edison, Nicola Tesla and Professor Pupin will be present. The Town Hall is beautifully decorated with evergreens and electric bulbs in honor of the occasion.

Many important papers are to be read to the convention and many new theories are to be aired. Among the authors to be heard are several young aspirants to the mantles of Edison, Pupin and Tesla.

One day will be devoted to the steam turbine, with a paper by Francis Hodgkinson on the Parsons turbine, and by R. R. Bowker or a representative on the De Laval turbine. Another session will be given over to the electrical turbine.

One session will be devoted to electrical railroading, which will be of special interest to this region, as it is Mr. Whitney’s intention, now that he has become financially interested in the Stanley Company, to equip steam railroads with electrical apparatus. Much time will be given over to a discussion of the education of electrical engineers.
