Electricity on the Canal

The test of electricity as a motor power on the canals of the State will probably be made at Pittsford on the Erie Canal near Rochester, Saturday, November 11th. The pole line is already completed and the generators and electrical appliances have been shipped from Pittsburg to Pittsford. The experiment will be witnessed by State officials, officers of the Niagara Power Company and officers of the Westinghouse Electrical Company, who will arrive at Pittsford at 9 a. m. on the day of the experiment, on a West Shore special train leaving New York at 10 o’clock the night before.

Mr. F. W. Hawley, who is actively interested in the experiment and whose residence is at Pittsford, received a dispatch this morning to the effect that the experimental boat, the first electrical canal boat ever built, is at Buffalo. It will probably reach Pittsford Monday. Nikola Tesla, the great Hungarian electrician from Budapest, and George Forbes, the celebrated English electrician, will be present to study this new application of electricity.
