Nikola Tesla’s Vacuum Tubes Furnish Wonderful Illumination.

New York, Jan. 7. — Nikola Tesla, the electrician, says that he has perfected vacuum tubes of such high illuminating power that photographers may work by night as well as by day. He says they may be used to illuminating lighthouses and buoys, and with them it will be possible for the painter to distinguish colors by night as well as by day.

He declines to talk much of his new discovery, but promises to do so soon. He is enthusiastic over the success of his work, and he has in his possession photographs of different objects which were taken with the aid of his vacuum tubes. A few of the photographs have been shown to intimate friends of the inventor, and those who have been prelleged to view them say that half tones do not compare with them. One of the photographs was made under the light of a single vacuum, at a distance of five feet, with an exposure of five seconds. It was the face of a man in which every wrinkle was visible. The hairs of the beard and of the eyelashes stood out plainly. Another photograph was that of a hand of Tesla, which showed seams and markings so plainly that a palmist would have no difficulty in reading the life of the inventor.
