He Will Take 2,000,000 Volts

Actor to Aid Remarkable Experiment in Garden Electrical Show.

The Electrical Show in Madison Square Garden was crowded yesterday. The variety of the exhibits, showing many practical uses of electricity and the wonderful strides made by science in finding new uses for the mysterious force, is attracting throngs to the Garden morning, afternoon and evening. The show is of great educational advantage, as well as being extremely entertaining and instructive.

A sensational experiment will be made in the Garden to-morrow afternoon. Dr. Henry E. Waite, president of the Waite & Bartlett Company, which manufactures electrical instruments for medical use, will send a current of 2,000,000 volts through a human body. Richard Garrick, an actor, will submit to the test.

The voltage used in putting men to death in the electric chair is about 3,000. The application of 2,000,000 volts is asserted by scientists to be safe, because it is too great to affect the nervous system. Tesla gave startling demonstrations of the use of high voltage on himself. Dr. Waite, who was an instructor of electrical apparatus in the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital, has made many experiments, but this will be the first time for him to give a public exhibition. Garrick, who is to take the voltage, is of athletic build, and said yesterday: “I’ve played a few games of football, and I guess I can stand this.”
