A Hint to Tesla
Point Rock Correspondent Makes Some Suggestions about Mars.
Upper Point Rock, Feb. 14. — The old bear saw his shadow on Candlemas day and the inhabitants of this section have seen theirs with the thermometer at 20 below zero ever since. Still we ought not to grumble. The snow is not over four feet deep in the roads and I have often seen it six feet deep in years gone by. Hay is plenty in this part of the Rock. No one has got any to sell and nobody has to buy.
Abe Mowers is cutting ice on his woodmill pond for Gottlieb Bessing and Ed Barry. They pay him by the cake.
It is the second crop and is 2 1/2 feet thick.
I saw in the papers that Nikola Tesla states that he has discovered a means of signaling to the planet Mars. Now the question is where is the best place to have a phone. I say at Gottlieb Bessing's blacksmith shop. Gottlieb has an old wind mill that he bought to run an up and down saw in his shop, to rip out stuff for wagons and sleighs. The first time he ran it he got his thumb caught in the gear some way and tore it off and he has not seen it since. It think with the use of that windmill Nikola Tesla could ather all the sounding waves around Point Rock and get a line direct to Mars and with a phone in the blacksmith shop the thing would be complete.
