On Saturday, Sept. 25th, the U. S. Shipping Board launched the Liberty ship "Nikola Tesla" honoring the memory of the great American inventor, a Serbian emigrant from Croatia, who died in New York last January.
Mrs. Ivan Subasich, wife of the Banus of Croatia, an exile in the United States with her husband, broke the champagne bottle over the S. S. "Nikola Tesla's" bow.
Others attending the launching were Tesla's two nephews living in America, Mr. Sava Kosanovich and Mr. Nikola Trbojevich; Dr. Subasich; Mr. Zlatko Balokovic, president of the Council of Americans of Croatian Descent; Mr. Zarko Buncick, president of the Serbian Vidov-dan Congress; Mr. Etbin Kristan, president of the Slovenian American Council; Dr. Stoyan Gavrilovich, Mr. Bogdan Raditsa, Mr. Nicholas Mirkovich; Misses Anne Traven, Charlotte Muzar and Mary Kraljich; Mr. Thomas Babin, representing Yugoslav sailors and dockworkers; and Louis Adamic, president of the United Committee of South Slavic Americans.
