Subject Is Universally Discussed — Intimations That Tesla's Mind is Affected.

LONDON, Jan, 12. — No subject has so appealed to the popular imagination in years as the possibility of opening communication with Mars. It is being universally discussed in the newspapers and in private by all classes in England and on the continent. All manner of persons are writing on the subject, from Marie Corelli to the Rev. Mr. Haweis. The latter calmly affirms that he has already anticipated Nikola Tesla's accomplishment by telepathy. He does not furnish any details, however, and quite ignores an impatient world's craving for proofs.

There is naturally great incredulity throughout the conservative old world in regard to Mr. Tesla's accomplishment and his sanguineness of more in the future. It is considered too good to be true. Every critic hedges hiraselt with the admission that Roentgen A rays and other similar great discoveries were greeted with almost universal incredulity. The most unkind of all attacks, however, is the suggestion that the great inventor has been incapacitated from, sound scientific work for the last two or three years by the mental effects of the experiments to which he subjected himself. It is intimated by one or two who know him that Tesla is a martyr to science and that he has never been the same man since he passed through his own body the awful currents which were generally supposed to result fatally.
