The Strollers Will Hold Their Ladies’ Day at the Waldorf Next Friday.

Well-Known Matrons to Act as Chaperons and Prominent Actresses Will Pour Tea.

Reception to Precede Horse Show — Last Year’s Affair Extremely Successful.

Imagine Mrs. Oliver Harriman, jr., hobnobbing with Miss May Irwin. Picture Senator Chauncey M. Depew introducing Mrs. Henry Clews to Miss Ida Conquest as a friend of his youth. Conjure up Mrs. William A. Duer, Mrs. Edmund L. Baylies and Mrs. Hermann Oelrichs taking tea from the dainty hands of Miss Ada Lewis, the “tough girl” creator, with Creighton Webb as intermediary.

Yet just such things are going to take place next Friday at the Waldorf-Astoria. Society and the stage are to meet there on a common footing, and the members of The Strollers — the “club of clubmen,” society calls it — are to be the hosts for each. It is the club’s second annual ladies’ day.

Last year’s function, held at the clubhouse, No. 1424 Broadway, was such a success that the cozy rooms of The Strollers were entirely inadequate. Society came in a crush to meet the stage on easy terms. This year the clubmen hosts will have the big ballroom at the Waldorf-Astoria.

The affair opens the social season, coming as it does just ahead of the Horse Show. Each member has been so restricted in his invitations that there are already heartburnings because many have been left out. But there will be 1,000 people present.

The Strollers bring stage people and society lights together at odd hours, as many of their “midnight roisters” last winter attested. Nearly all of its members are drawn from the University, Knickerbocker, Union, Metropolitan and Racquet Clubs.
