Some Recollections of Historic Event

In reading your "Know Your Niagara" regarding the Edison-Tesla AC-DC controversy, some added information came to mind.

At one time Tesla worked under Edison. Edison promised Tesla that if he would develop an AC generator that could transmit power over a vast distance he would pay him handsome royalties.

Tesla developed the generator but received no royalties. When confronted with this Edison laughed and made the remark, "You foreign boys just don't understand American humor." At this Tesla left Edison's employ and joined George Westinghouse.

As years passed, the Nobel prize was awarded jointly to Tesla and Edison for their significant work in the development of the AC generator. Tesla refused it on the ground that Edison's name was one the prize as well as his own.
