The Storage Battery Again

May 31st, 1902

Mr. Edison, "the wizard," is again in evidence with a perfected storage battery which is to accomplish marvels and is to solve among other things the vexed question of automobilism.

Mr. Edison now declares that he has perfected a storage battery which will run an automobile a hundred miles or so without recharging, and if this should prove true storage battery automobiles will undoubtedly be greatly in evidence in the future.

A year or more ago Edison announced that he had invented a storage battery not near so heavy as those at present in use and the whole world looked with interest upon "the wizard's" discovery.

Thus far, however, nothing practical has come of Mr. Edison's storage battery invention, until now when the announcement is made that his battery has at last been perfected and will soon be manufactured for general use in automobiles and, possibly, street cars and motors generally.

Edison's promises, like those of that other great promiser, Tesla, have not always materialized and generally at least been very slow in materializing, and "the wizard" must not be surprised if the public hesitates about accepting with full grain his latest predictions of success with the storage battery.

The electricians of most distinguished repute, both in this county and Europe, have been for a long time hard at work in the endeavor to simply perfect and make practical the storage battery system, and upon the solution of the problem will depend the most weighty and farseeing results. If Edison has at last plucked the heart out of the storage battery mystery he will have revolutionized the motive power of the world.
