The curious tower and the building shown in the cut are part of the immense electrical plant established by Nikola Tesla at Wardenclyffe, on Long Island. The plant and grounds are guarded closely and no one is permitted to enter the premises unless he is on legitimate business. The tower is a deep mystery to the dwellers in the vicinity and Tesla has refused thus far to explain its purpose. It is known, however, that a great well is dug into the earth beneath the tower and that a spiral stairway extends downward 150 feet. Mr Tesla has stated more than once that it is quite possible to utilize the sun's rays as a motive power, and it is suspected by many persons that the mysterious steel tower is designed for experimentation with solar rays.
