L. W. Rogers, national lecturer for the Theosophical Society, is in Utica for the purpose of giving a course of free lectures on occultism. The opening lecture occurs Sunday evening at New Century Auditorium, the subject being “Scientific Evidence of Future Life.” The work of the Society for Psychical Research will be discussed, particularly the experiments of Sir William Crookes with psychic force and its various manifestations. Mr. Rogers will remain in Utica until June 17 giving a free lecture every Sunday and Thursday evenings at New Century Auditorium. Some of the subjects to be discussed are “The Invisible World,” “Reincarnation, What It Is and Is Not,” “The Hidden Side of Evolution,” “Beyond the Border.”
As to what scientific evidence there is to show that the consciousness survives the physical body, Mr. Rogers said the work of Profs. Crookes, Lodge and Richet, had changed mere speculation on the subject into known facts. “The experiments of Crookes have proven,” he said, “that there is an invisible world of matter, force and intelligence, surrounding and interpenetrating our own. Nicola Tesla had shown the scientific probability of intelligences existing on our own planet in forms of a grade of matter that our physical senses can know nothing of, but Crookes has proved it fully and conclusively.
“We have reached a new era in psychical research. The scientific world has taken it up with such interest and energy that the mysterious is rapidly becoming the commonplace. Not only is there abundant evidence that we survive bodily death, but the conditions of life after death are becoming known. While the Society for Psychical Research gives its energy to discovering new facts the Theosophical Society is interested chiefly in disseminating occult information for the public benefit.”
