Nikola Tesla’s new discovery that the electric arc is a source of Roentgen rays adds another puzzling fact to the at present bewildering knowledge of that curious invisible light. Professor Roentgen did well in naming them X-rays in view of their indeterminate character. Tesla’s experiments recall, however, the announcement by Edison some time ago that he had a clue to the utilization of these rays or an electric lamp. According to his theory, then advanced, he thought he would yet be able to produce an arc lamp without any inner coil. The Tesla discovery would tend to confirm Edison’s opinion and prophecy. The Wizard of Menlo Park, however, advised capitalists not to speculate for a few years on any possible outcome.
