The latter method has accordingly been selected. The transformer consists essentially of a primary winding of eight turns of copper strip placed at the base of a cylinder around which is wound the secondary of 300 turns of No. 30 D. C. C. copper magnet wire in a single layer. The starting point of the primary, as well as that of the secondary, is connected to a stud of metal which passes through the base of the instrument for ground connection. The primary of the coil is connected in the circuit of the condenser and spark gap in order that the oscillations may pass through the copper strip and thus induce a high frequency current of higher voltage in the secondary winding. The general appearance of the completed coil is shown in the illustrations, Fig. 19, and in Fig. 20 the reader will find details of the parts from which it is constructed, together
