Tesla Memorial Society of the U.S. and Canada September, 1981 Dear Friend, THE TESLA MEMORIAL SOCIETY, a non-political and non-profit organization dedicated to scientific, cultural, and humanistic pursuits, was founded on July 8, 1979 to honor Nikola Tesla, the world-famous Yugoslav-American scientist of genius, prolific and prophetic visionary, inventor of polyphase alternating current, and the first man to succeed in transmitting electric power at great distances. This Society is already offering modest scholarships to deserving graduate students in Tesla's own and other fields of learning. The Society is also interested in academic and cultural exchanges with Yugoslavia and other countries, including the awarding of honorary degrees to deserving individuals by institutions of higher learning in the United States, Canada, and Yugoslavia. We are writing to you in the hope that you are interested in the progress of science and technology in general, and Nikola Tesla in particular. If we are right, may we ask you to support our Society by contributing whatever you can to this worthy undertaking.
