I have read the applications for patent filed by Mr. Tesla for this invention, namely, Serial No. 523,832, filed Oct. 21, 1909, and Serial No. 603,049, filed January 17, 1911, and I find that the trubine above referred to was constructed exactly on the principle described in said applications and illustrated more particularly in Figures 2 thereof, and I am of the opinion that the turbine operates precisely on the principle set forth in said applications. The following data, selected from a number of readings. taken, refer to measurements of this turbine at which I assisted Mr. Tesla, the record being kept by Professor C. D. Richards, Professor Emeritus of the Engineering Faculty of Yale University: R. P. M. 18000 Water consumed per hour. 5481 lbs. gear. Steam Gage at nozzle. 100 lbs. Brake H. P. 102.8 Vacuum Gage at exhaust. 15" Steam consumption per Brake H.P. per hour. 53.4 No allowance was made in these tests for loss of power in -4Many similar. tests with the Tesla turbine have unmistakably shown that conversion of heat into mechanical power takes place during the passage of the steam through the rotor. It is therefore, entirely unlike other smooth disk turbines as that prpposed and illustrate fo example, in United States 843
