}) J J 1 J J T T J J 850,343,--2. invention and which, as above stated, was rendered possible only by the production of apparatus of a character radically new and different from my before known," et c. From a consideration of page 4 of the specification, it would appear that the above quoted statements refer to the t-msformer shown in the drawing. If such is the case, the matter contained in pages 1 to 3 should, it is thought, be considerably condensed, Pages 4 and 5 are devoted to a description of the transfomer, but no proportions or dinensions are specified except that the "length of the high tension coil should be approximately one quarter of the wave length of the electrical disturbances in the circuit. It is not stat cd what number of turns should be used in the high tension coil, nor what the ratio of turns in the primary and secondary should be. The only description of the sourco G in the case is found on page 6 in paragraph 1, and this paragraph does not even suggest what the source nsy be, but caly states that "the frequency of the current is in large neagure arbitrary.. with respect to the position of the teminals D, D', nothing is stated save that if the potential be sufficiently high and the terminals of the coils be maintained at a proper elovation where the atmosphere is comparatively rarefied, the intermediata stratum will serve as a conductor for the current produced.
