Nikola Tesla Patents
494 Room 91. In the matter of the application of Nikola Tesla, Serial No. 735,573, filed November 2, 1899, Apparatus for Utilizing Effects Transmitted through the Natural Media, Renewed Application. Hon. Commissioner of Patents, Sir:- New York, May 25, 1901. follows: In the above named application we now amend as In claim 5, line 2, cancel "through the natural media". In claim 6, line 2, cancel "through the natural media". In claim 9, line 2, cancel "through the natural media". In claim 11, line 2, cancel "through the natural media". The object of this amendment is to make the claims affected thereby unequivocally cover a feature of the invention which such claims in their original form could be relied on to cover only by invoking the doctrine of equivalents. In other words, the invention, so far as it relates to the transmission of electrical effects by conduction, is directly applicable to systems involving the use of an artificial line conductor as well as to those which rely solely upon the natural media, and this fact, if not explicitly recognized in the original application, is obvious, and it would be an unnecessary abridgement of applicant's rights to insert any words in the claims which might be regarded as limitations. We ask that the application be considered as amended. ken, Pan & Coope alters for Vela.
