General and Mrs. Harrison Honored with Reception

General and Mrs. Harrison are indirectly to be thanked for promoting the pleasure of about one hundred guests last Thursday evening, who met by invitation of Professor and Mrs. R. Ogden Doremus, at their residence, No. 241 Madison avenue, to do honor to the former President and his bride.

The drawing rooms were fairly abloom with choice flowers, sent to the host and hostess by friends who were mindful of the fact that the occasion marked also the forty-sixth anniversary of their wedding day. Both Professor and Mrs. Doremus, the latter looking very handsome in a magnificent gown of violet velvet and gold brocade, received many congratulations.

The visitors were received in the middle drawing room, or library, General and Mrs. Harrison standing by the side of their hostess, who was assisted by her daughter, Miss Estelle Doremus. During the evening there was some excellent music by Mme. Clemence de Vere Sapio and Mme. Camilla Urso, and an elaborate supper was served. The dining room was beautifully decorated with yellow roses and chrysanthemums, and punch was served from the huge silver bowl presented by the Philharmonic Society to Professor Doremus when that gentleman was its president.

Several noted guests were present, among them Professor Moissan, the French scientist, whose discovery of the secret of artificial diamond making has provoked considerable interest in this country; Professor Tesla, the noted electrician, and Professor Charles A. Doremus, a prominent delegate to the recent Scientific Congress abroad, on which occasion he had the honor of being made vice president of the convention.

Both General and Mrs. Harrison were in the best of health and spirits, and seemed thoroughly to enjoy the first reception.
