Must Pay Interest on Piece of Land Bought for Wireless Telegraphy.
RIVERHEAD, L. I., May 4. — Judge Jaycox in the County Court to-day directed a jury to render a verdict for $653.28 in favor of James S. Warden, who was suing Nikola Tesla for the interest on the purchase price of 410 acres of land at Wardenclyffe, Rocky Point, which he sold to Tesla.
Warden had a contract with Tesla for 410 acres of land at $25 an acre. Tesla set up the defence that the plot contained only 370 acres and asked that the suit be dismissed on that ground. The Court, however, overruled him and ordered a verdict for the full amount of interest on the purchase price.
Tesla bought the property to use in connection with his wireless telegraph system and strung poles along the beach.
