Two portrait stamps have been issued in Yugoslavia in honor of Nikola Tesla, the noted electrician and inventor whose birth in 1857 at Smiljan Lika gives Yugoslavia the right to honor him. Tesla came to America in 1884 and worked for a while with the Edison companies. He later became an American citizen and for this reason has often been classified as an American inventor. The new stamps are large in size and show a very fine portrait of Tesla. The values are 75p dark brown and yellow green and 1.75d deep blue and gray blue.
