Tesla Motors for Mining Purposes

Referring to the alternating current apparatus reminds me of the fact that the Westinghouse Company has now entered the field of supplying electrical machines for mining purposes. You will remember that in my last letter I spoke of the imminent boom in this direction, and there is every prospect that the output of electrical apparatus for mining operations during 1890 will be very large. The Westinghouse Company has just secured a very large contract from the Hercules Mining Machine Company of Pittsburgh for a large quantity of generators and Tesla motors. As far as I am aware, this is the first time that alternating motors have been mentioned in connection with any such work, or with any heavy work at all. The apparatus will be used in operating the Hercules coal-mining machines, just lately brought out.
