I don't know enough about Tesla transformers to answer the first part of the question; but alternating current can be transformed with very slight loss, either up or down, by suitable transformers. With regard to the second part of the question, I don't think any two stations use exactly the same construction of aerial. Mostly phosphor-bronze stranded wire of 1/8 in. diameter is used. A large number of stations use the umbrella antenna, some the fan, some inverted L, and others T-shape. In some cases, where multiple wires are used, they are arranged in the same plane, separated by bamboo spreaders; in other stations the spreaders are arranged as a x, and the wires, therefore, form a sort of long box. The Admiralty seem to favour the latter type. I use the former, as fewer spreaders are necessary, which makes for less windage and weight.
