The Teslian - Vol. I, No. 5 Page 1
Teslian (Tesla-International) - September 1st, 1954
Recently, a plan was announced to edit and publish a complete This and definitive edition of the papers of Benjamin Franklin. project is sponsored jointly by the American Philosophical Society and Yale University, and made possible by grants from Time, Inc. on behalf of Life Magazine. The work of making copies of all Franklin's writings began this year, and the printing of more than 25,000 letters and documents is expected to require twenty-five volumes. The resulting volumes will be published by the Yale University Press, with the first volume appearing in 1958.
A rich bibliography of Frankliniana and comprehensive indexes will bring to focus every expression of Franklin's achievements, with annotation adequate for scholarly purposes. It is hoped that this edition will encourage other and later scholars in pursuing the many fascinating paths of inquiry that such a publication may be expected to open up.
Since Franklin's death, his papers have been widely scattered. How to find these papers is, therefore, a major problem confronting the editors. As an effort toward its solution, requests have been made to all known private collectors, libraries, and institutions to furnish information on any Franklin manuscripts.
The coming Tesla Centennial celebration in 1956 has been previously mentioned on pages of "The Teslian". Through the very diligent efforts and guiding inspiration of a group of members of the Tesla Society, plans are now being considered to give considerable oub- licity to the Tesla celebration, particularly through publications. The extent and interest in publication support is, of course, some- what dependent upon the availability of papers of Dr. Tesla, with an emphasis on hitherto unpublished material. The objectives, and as well the problems to be faced, are parallel with those of the recently-formed Benjamin Franklin group; the ultimate extent and degree of success of the Tesla group will as well depend upon the cooperation from its members and friends. Information is earnestly requested from anyone either owning Tesla manuscripts or other writing to or from Tesla, or knowing of of the location of such manuscripts. Such cooperation will be deeply appreciated. Address the Directors of the Tesla Society.
