THIS age is giving a dignity and place to electricity that were not dreamed of a few years ago, and now comes M. L. Pence, professor of physics in the Kentucky College, at Lexington, claiming — and not without strong proof — that the space pervading ether is a form of electricity.
This theory strongly supports Mr. Tesla's claim that intelligences in widely separated planets can communicate with each other, and is in line with the often expressed hypothesis that electrical energy plays a great part in the motion of the spheres, and may be the real cause of what we call "gravity."
Even Newton said he doubted the power of matter attracting matter through a vacuum, and intimated that he believed there must be some moving substance or energy forcing the bodies together, and he found the law that the force of attraction diminishes according, to the inverse square to be in accord with the theory. Now, according to Professor Pence, we may find that electrical energy is forcing matter in all directions, and is the cause of what we term attraction of gravitation.
This electrical ether, if it exists, is consistent with well known facts in wireless telegraphy, and its permeating the earth may, it is claimed, be the real cause of the ground circuit.
