Westinghouse General Electric Litigation

The statement was printed to-day, credited to the Electrical Review, that “the Westinghouse Company yesterday instituted a suit at Utica in the Circuit Court of the United States for the Northern District of New York to enjoin the General Electrical Company from delivering multiphase apparatus covered by the Tesla patents to the Edison Electrical Illuminating Company of New York. The suit was brought under the agreement relating to patents which the General Electric and Westinghouse Companies entered into in March, 1896, and the Westinghouse Company contends that the apparatus in question cannot be delivered by the General Electric Company to the New York Edison Company because of the exclusive license under the Tesla patents which the Westinghouse Company’s licensee in this city, the United Electric Light and Power Company, has held for many years. The motion for a preliminary injunction is returnable on April 4.”

Frederic H. Betts, counsel to the Westinghouse Company, said to-day of the report that he “knew nothing about it.”
