World for an Audience

Suppose a President of the United States is being inaugurated. Or suppose there is a great disaster in some far part of the world. Or suppose the final game of the world series is being played. According to Nikola Tesla it won't be necessary to journey to the spot to see it, nor even to wait for telegraphed photographs. All one will have to do will be to pull out of his pocket a little instrument, take a squint and there is the whole thing right before one's eyes.

This is a Prediction and appears to be something more than a dream. The wonder is to be achieved by an application of radio principles, for there are light waves as well as sound waves. We have managed to capture the sound waves. Why should we not also capture the light waves? Between the two, the world becomes an audience for whatever is happening.

There are other wonders which Tesla sees for the future, such as the application of wireless energy to the propulsion of flying machines. (and if to flying machines why no to other machines?); the tapping of the world's internal heat for industrial purposes and so on. Then, supposing for a moment from things scientific to things social, he likewise predicts the future dominance of women in modern life and the relegation of man to the position of the drone. Even serious minded persons sometimes have to have their little joke.
