its movements in the manner of a living being, for it would have all of the chief mechanical characteristics or elements of the same."
"This principle was applicable to any kind of a machine that moves on land, on water, or in the air. Although I evolved this invention many years ago and explained it to my visitors very frequently in my laboratory demonstrations, it was not until much later, long after I had perfected it, that it became known, when naturally enough it gave rise to much discussion and to sensational reports and stories. But the true significance of this new art was not grasped by the majority, nor was the great force of the underlying principle recognized."
It is only today that we fully realize the tremendous importance of these principles of "wireless or radio control" which Tesla discovered so long ago. Tesla made demonstrations of his wireless controlled boat in New York harbor in 1897, and that was 60 years ago, while today our scientists are able to guide, direct and control aeroplanes, ships and rockets many miles away, but still using the same underlying principles that were first demonstrated and discovered by Tesla.
On July 1, 1934, Dr. Tesla announced to the world that he had perfected a "deathRay" which could end all wars. He had developed a method of sending concentrated beams of particles through free air at tremendous velocity. These tiny particles of solid matter, traveling at very high velocity, would destroy an entire fleet of ene my planes. This "death-beam" would operate silently and effectively at distances of from 150 to 200 miles, depending upon the elevation of the installation. Tesla said that it would be possible to burn a "spot" on the moon with this discovery.
This beam could surround the borders of a country like an invisible Chinese Wall, only a million times less penetrable. The voltages to be employed in propelling the death-beam to their objective, Dr. Tesla said, would attain lightning like potentials of 50 million volts. Tied in with modern radar, a single installation would give complete protection to an area of hundreds of square miles. Installed around the borders of a nation, Tesla visualized the end of all wars on earth.
In 1937, he offered this defensive system to England. He said that this invention would secure complete immunity from any form of attack and that it constituted the most revolutionary technical advance in history. He predicted that if England did not accept his offer, some "foreign" power might later exact a price so great as to strain the financial resources of the Empire. It was twenty years ago that Tesla made these predictions and very unfortunate that England did not accept his offer. America may now stand in the same position that England did in 1939. Will Tesla's "greatest of all inventions" be used to protect our beloved country from ICBM hydrogen bomb warfare.. or is it too late?
Tesla lived out the last 12 years of his life, high up in the penthouse of the Hotel New Yorker, New York City. His good friend, George Westinghouse, who was a large stockholder in the Hotel New Yorker, had made arrangements prior to his death for Tesla to live in these quarters.
Far above the noise and traffic of the great city, where he could look out over the magnificent skyline of Manhattan and see the millions of twinkling lights, each burning from his own discovery.. alternating current power, Tesla lived alone like
