and scientific, educational and cultural institutions and institutes all over Yugoslavia took the name of Tesla. The first hydro-electric power-station in Croatia (at Novi Vinodolski) and the first big factory of tele-communication equipment in Zagreb bear the name of Nikola Tesla.
The present, fifth celebration, marking the 120th anniversary of Nikola Teslaâs birth, as regards the concept of programme is organically linked with the earlier celebrations, but is much wider in scope, more realistic and more ambitious which in Yugoslav terms gives it a special and more lasting scientific, cultural and sociopolitical importance. In addition, the United States - Nikola Teslaâs second homeland - as part of the celebrations of the bicentenary of American independence, is to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Tesla who lived and worked in the United States and where he and his epoch-making work have become part of American history. The programmes of the Yugoslav and American celebrations are presented in this publication (which is also to appear in several other world languages) as information for the Yugoslav, American and international public.
