Books written by or about Nikola Tesla

CHAPTER TWELVE again sentenced to be placed on the dusty shelves of some library bookstack. I was wrong: a week or so later Tesla was back in the newspapers again. A story was circulating that Russian transmitters were being used to modify the earth's weather. It was said that the West would soon experience devastating storms and changes of climate. In the midst of all this, the telephone started to ring. Was I the same Dr David Peat who was engaged in scientific research on Tesla transmitters?' Was it true that the Canadian Government was about to finance Tesla research? Had I published a secret report on Tesla transmission? I realized very quickly that my report was not as confidential as I had thought. Within a couple of days, television and radio stations were planning items and reports on Tesla transmission and CBC radio was working on an hour-long documentary. I realized that the best thing to do would be to come straight out into the open and agree to give interviews and every help to the reporters. Over the following weeks news of weather modification was fuelled by stories of the Tesla transmitter or a new source of energy. The story peaked and a handful of days later had faded from view. It was during this decline in the popularity of the Tesla story that I received a call from Andrew Microwski. Would I join him and Senator CW Carter of Newfoundland for lunch at the parliament buildings? I approached that lunch with some misgivings. I did not imagine that the senator and his friends would be very happy with my report and I realized that I was in for a rather hard time. By some 'Freudian' process I was late for our meeting, but, as I arrived at the members' dining room, I recognized Andrew talking to two other people at the entrance. Andrew introduced me to the elderly white-haired gentleman, who turned out to be Senator Carter. As we made our way to a table the senator asked me a few questions about my background. Where had I trained? How long had I been in Canada? Did I enjoy living in Ottawa? As we began our meal, the senator suggested that I should give him a brief summary of my reaction to Tesla's proposals. I began to speak and he listened in silence until, towards the end of my explanation, he asked me if I had actually read any of Tesla's patents. 106
