This diagram (taken from government records) shows the focusing power of the HAARP ionospheric heater. This diagram shows the unique feature of Eastlund's idea — to focus the energy to a point in the ionosphere. Other ionospheric heaters project the energy in the opposite way with the energy beam getting wider and wider as it moves up into the atmosphere. The new heater concentrates the energy whereas with the old technology the energy dissipates with height.
