Nikola Tesla Letters
July 26th, 1899 letter from George Scherff to Nikola Tesla
New York, July 26th, 1899
46 & 48 E. Houston Str.
Nikola Tesla, Esq.,
Colorado Springs, Colo.
Dear Mr. Tesla:
The work of the shop is on coherers and filings, finishing pulley and bearings and insulating armature. The coherers are not yet finished, as considerable difficulty was encountered in getting the glass pieces all of equal size. Mr. Uhlman says, he will try his best to have them finished to-morrow.
He has had some aluminum wire nickel-plated and will have it cut into small particles. Nickel wire 10/1000 of an inch thick could not be obtained, so some thicker wire had to be taken and drawn to the proper size.
The speed of the first independent break, Mr. Uhlman says, is now over 2100 revolutions per minute and the machine runs very quietly and smoothly.
The mail to-day consisted of two letters from inventors and an appeal for charity.
Respectfully,
Geo. Scherff
