100) J 1 J JJD I have made tests on a great number of steam engines for the purpose of determining their power and efficiency, and regard myself as well equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for making such tests intelligently and correctly. I have had occasion to witness the operation and to participate in a number of tests of Tesla turbines, and I have been requested to submit a sworn statement of the results of such tests and my opinion as to the novelty, efficiency and commercial value of such apparatus. The first test with a Tesla turbine witnessed by me was made at Bridgeport, Conn., at the works of the American & British Janufacturing Company in the summer of 1910. I was present during tests at these works on three other occasions when two different turbines were used, which I may designate, respective ly, as the 100 HP Tesla turbine and the 600 HP Tesla turbine. The 100 HP Tesla turbine was loaded by a Prony Brake and gages were provided for reading the steam pressure at various points in the turbine, viz; at the feed pipe, at the nozzle, beyond the nozzle and at the exhaust. A tachometer was provided for indicating the revolutions of the shaft. On two of the occasions above mentioned the readings were taken and recorded by myself, kept by Mr. Tesla. The turbine developed in the various tests made on these three occasions from 50 to 105 HP, according to the setting of the brake. The steam pressure was approximately 90 lbs. per square inch gage pressure, the exhaust varying from one inch to ten inches vacuum, according to the load and other conditions. For so small a prime mover of 100 HP the while in another instance the record was -232 897
