Room 91. In the matter of the application of Nikola Tesla, No. 650, 343, filed September 2, 1897, Transmission of Electrical Energy. Hon. Commissioner of Patents, Sir:- New York, October 14, 1897. In the application above named we now amend by cancelling from line 9, page 1, to line 4, page 6, inclusive, and inserting the following: "It has been well known, he retofore, that if the air enclosed in a vessel be rarefied, its insulating properties are impaired to such extent that it becomes what may be considered as a true conductor of electricity, alone of admittedly high resistance. The practical 1 information in this matter, however, has been derived from observations manifestly subject to limitations imposed by the character of the apparatus or means here tofore known, and the quality of the electrical effects producible thereby.
