CNS Hosts TeslaNet - the Society's Bulletin Board
Community News Service (CNS), located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the host organization for the International Tesla Society’s TeslaNet. CNS is a multi-line computerized source of entertainment and information. On the entertainment side, CNS offers a wide variety of fun including teleconferencing, fantasy adventure games, computer dating, poker, storytelling and much, much more. In terms of information, this is your source for national and international news, ski reports, public domain software, and now TeslaNet.
TeslaNet will initially have four main categories of information:
- About the International Tesla Society
- Calendar
- Tesla Technology Notebook
- Masters of Science Hall of Fame.
Only the Tesla Technology Notebook will be a restricted area in which a user must belong to both the CNS Bulletin Board and the International Tesla Society in order to download. Although this information is on the bulletin board, we ask that all of our members do honor the copyrights and restrict themselves to personal use only.
Located in the first category, About the International Tesla Society, is a brief summary of the history of the Society. Additional information about the Society s organization and chapters will be listed. Chapters are invited to write and tell us about themselves.
The Calendar has been divided into three sections:
- Conference Calendar - includes both ITS and other organizations conferences.
- 1992 Int’l Tesla Symposium - will be updated with the latest conference information as it becomes available.
- ITS Activities - will include information about activities conducted by the Society and its chapters.
The Tesla Technology Notebook will include information on the various fields of study in which Tesla was a pioneer. Included will be articles on Tesla Coil construction, medical research and development, and alternate energy production. It is envisioned that by the end of 1992, this will be one of the most unique research databases in the country.
Finally there is the Masters of Science Hall of Fame. Based on the trading cards, this biographical section will include the scientists selected for the cards. Each scientist’s achievements will be summarized, and then be followed by a more extensive biography. In addition to the above features, there is a mailbox to leave notes and articles for the society.
Steve Elswick is the “SIG-OP” (Special Interest Group Operator) for the TeslaNet. If there is a problem or a recommendation for any changes, please contact Steve Elwick. Those desiring access to the Tesla Technology Notebook also need to contact Steve.
The CNS system has tremendous power and sophistication without sacrificing the friendly easy-to-use commands and menus. People who have never touched a keyboard will find this system easy to use and there are people standing by to assist you. So don't let the fact that this is a computer, scare you. Feel free to call up and experiment.
To log onto the system, call (719) 520-5000 with your computer (keep in mind that if you do not live in Colorado Springs, this may be a long distance call.) If you would like to talk to the CNS staff, call the office at (719) 579-9120. Call today! Free demonstration time with some access limitations is granted automatically.
We realize that many of our readers do not have ready access to computers. However, we encourage all of our readers who do have access to log-on at the first opportunity and let us know how we can improve it. For those who have
never used a bulletin board before, we will be having hands-on mini-workshops on using TeslaNet at the upcoming 1992 International Tesla Symposium in July 1992.
TeslaNet is still in the infantile stages and as such, only limited information has been placed upon it. As we have more time to work on it, more and more information will be made available. Changes in form and function will be made without notice as the board matures. Your patience during the phase-in period is deeply appreciated.
