Croatian Walk of Fame featuring Nikola Tesla
Hollywood is not the only town to have the Walk of Fame!
When strolling along Opatija’s coastal promenade next to the Slatina beach, you will encounter a very unusual attraction - the Croatian Walk of Fame. Surprised and a bit confused (… I’m not in Hollywood now…), you will notice marble stars with famous names written on them in shiny golden letters. Surprise and confusion give way to the feeling of respect in front of this unusual constellation. Opatija once again proved to be unique and very special indeed. Delighted, you continue walking, knowing that you will return to the Croatian Walk of Fame many more times! The Croatian Walk of Fame was established in 2005 as a symbolic tribute to people whose sporting, scientific, cultural or artistic endeavours have contributed significantly to the worldwide promotion of Croatia.
Potential laureates are nominated by the Nomination Commission consisting of several noted public individuals. From the nominations, readers of the media sponsors then cast their vote to decide which two candidates (one living, one awarded posthumously) should have their stars included in the Croatian Walk of Fame in Opatija.
The Croatian Walk of Fame is located in the part of the town called Slatina. Since 2005, ten persons are nominated each year, of which five posthumously. The first eight stars were placed in honour of Nikola Tesla, Miroslav Radman, Dragutin Tadijanović, Miroslav Krleža, Dražen Petrović, Janica Kostelić, Krešimir Ćosić and Oliver Dragojević.
