ANNOUNCEMENT OF TESLA CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY
With great pleasure the Tesla Society announces:
American engineering societies and institutions, in recognition of Nikola Tesla as a world benefactor, have wholeheartedly endorsed a program honoring the 100th anniversary of his birth this year.
The American Institute of Electrical Engineers will dedicate its Fall General Meeting in Chicago in October to the life and inventions of the great scientist and engineer. (See announcement in Electrical Engineering, July, 1955, p. 612-613.) Other commemorative programs are being arranged by the Institute of Radio Engineers, the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, the Franklin Institute, and a number of universities. Planning includes permanent memorials: Scholarships, medals, literature, and permanent exhibits in the Museum of Science and Industry and possibly the Franklin Institute and Smithsonian Institution.
A bill has recently been introduced in the U. S. Senate (Bill No. S. 2910) requesting the issuance of a stamp commemorating Tesla's 100th anniversary. A stamp would, of course,
