Whether there is a definite cause and effect relationship between these two simultaneous events has not been proven. Weather conditions although severe are not records. In a few cases they were accompanied by flashes of bright light, but there appears to be some uncertainty in the observations as to whether the light flashes coincided with the sounds heard.
