Nikola Tesla Books
Special Postal Stamp
In order to mark the 120th anniversary of Teslaâs birth the Community of Yugoslav Postal, Telegraph and Telephone Services is to issue a special postal stamp (value 5 dinars) which will be on sale from 10 July. The stamp shows in the foreground Frane Krsinicâs monument to Nikola Tesla which stands in front of the Technical Faculty in Belgrade, and in the background the Niagara Falls where the first hydro-electric power-station was erected according to Teslaâs design and where a copy of this monument is to be erected this year. The stamp was designed by the painter Andrej Milenkovic.
The first special Tesla stamp bearing the scientistâs figure went into circulation on 28 April, 1936 to mark the 80th anniversary of Teslaâs birth. Stamps were also issued on 7 January, 1953 to mark the 10th anniversary of Teslaâs death (a stamp showing Teslaâs bust according to Ivan Mestrovicâs monument) and again on 10 July, 1956, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth (one stamp showing Tesla in his earlier years, and three stamps with his inventions). The stamps were issued in several values and thus altogether seven different stamps with Teslaâs figure and three stamps with his inventions have been issued to date. Teslaâs figure appeared on a picture post-card of the Serbian Kingdom as early as in 1895.
