Nikola Tesla Books
Let us not allow this greatness to be lessened by fomenting hatred, - not against the forces of evil but against our own brothers. The fate of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in the Old Country is inseparable, whatever the enemy may try to do. Here it is incomparably easier to do oneâs duty than in the bloody battles in the Balkans. We appear stronger, more noble if we are united. United, we fulfil our duty to the martyrdom of our people, to humanity. Those who act differently do not do well.
From this war, the greatest in history, a new world must be born which will justify the sacrifices of mankind. This new world must be a world where there will be no exploitation of the weak by the evil; where there will be no humiliation of the poor by the powerful and the rich; where works of the mind, of science and art will serve mankind as a whole making life easier and more beautiful, rather than individuals for acquiring wealth. The new world will not be a world of the downtrodden and humiliated, but a world of free people and nations, equal in the dignity and respect of man.
The 6th Lika Proletarian Division âNikola Teslaâ on its victorious march on Mt. Dinara during the war (1944)
âFinding their ideal in their own independent state, the Yugoslav peoples with all their healthy instincts have always been and always will be opposed to fascist and nazist ideology. This was the cause of the spontaneous peopleâs revolt which took place in Belgrade on 27 March ... This is the essence of the struggle and resistance to the occupying powers by the Yugoslav people as a whole.â
(From Teslaâs appeal to the Soviet Academy of Science, 1941)
I am as proud of my Serbian origin as I am of my Croatian fatherland.
