[Sec. 8., cont.] WHAT EXPERIMENTS WERE CONDUCTED BY TESLA SUGGESTING THAT WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION MAY BE POSSIBLE? This writer believes that a valid question can be raised about the unique, but happenstance, location of Tesla's experimental station resulting in misleading experimental measurements and, therefore, erroneous conclusions. Recommendations: 1. It is suggested that the tests recommended by Johler be undertaken at Memorial Park, Colorado Springs (near the site of the experimental station) to verify the possible misinterpretation of standing waves induced in the earth by lightning strokes. See Appendix A. 2. It is suggested that tests be undertaken at the same location to verify the possible accentuating effect of standing waves in front of the Pikes Peak range front, as reported in the studies of Wait and Murphy. See Sec. 4.c. 3. Perhaps the greatest clue to an understanding of what Tesla accomplished centers on his statement of the necessity in having a persistence time for a wave train of approximately 1/12 second (-0% +1.8%). The holdings of the Tesla Museum in Yugoslavia have not as yet been thoroughly reviewed for indications of precisely how Tesla made this measurement. We are, therefore, at a loss to examine this issue. As an editorial aside, it is this writer's opinion that Tesla is being short-changed in historiography and in the credit for advanced technical principles having current applicability because of the location of Tesla's intellectual inheritance in Yugoslavia. The current ethnic strife pushing Yugoslavia to the brink of civil war certainly puts a chilling influence on anyone visiting there. Even if it were not for the current strife, the other problems--off limits to those with security clearances, expense, etc.--bring this writer to contend even more firmly than at any time over the past 30 years that the best way for those in this country to study Tesla's life and technical works will be through a resumption of the microfilm project begun 30 years ago. It is truly unfortunate that political matters have served to keep knowledge of Tesla and his work in a shadow since his death. Appreciation of Tesla has been incredibly damaged by Sava Kosanovic's mistaken belief that leading world authorities would eagerly beat a path to Yugoslavia to pay homage to and 'broadcast' knowledge about Tesla. The reverse has happened because research specialists and historians view the Tesla archives as bottled up--virtually inaccessible. Tragic. - 18 -
