Nikola Tesla Books
IN SEARCH OF NIKOLA TESLA and claimed a table near the window. Dr Microwski was not the man to bother with the formalities of conversation; as soon as we had ordered our meal he plunged straight into business. 'Now, how can we help you, Dr Peat?' Before I had time to reply he had begun to talk in an animated way about Tesla's inventions and the hope they offered to a world deep in the grips of an energy crisis. I felt disoriented by the force and direction of his conversation and tried to explain that I was only just finding my own way through Tesla's writings. 'What I'm trying to do,' I said, 'is attempt to understand Tesla power transmission.' 'I know all that, Dr Peat,' Andrew replied. 'I've talked to Dr Schneider, your president, on the telephone. You see, we have a large amount of information on Tesla. Is there any way we can help you?' I told him that I had really hoped for a relaxed chat over lunch so that we could get to know each other a little. I also wanted to know a little more about PACE. But Andrew Microwski had no wish to pussyfoot where Tesla was concerned. He continued in full force. 'Do you realize that there are eminent scientists in the United States who are very interested in Tesla's work and feel that it should be investigated?" I soon realized that Andrew was totally dedicated to Tesla and his visions. As to the predictions, he took them all quite literally. Over our meal he emphasized the importance of various inventions and told me that so many of them were ahead of their time that they had been ignored by orthodox scientists. In the face of so much compelling enthusiasm I simply sat back, listened and enjoyed the meal. Although I did not say so, I felt that some of his statements should be taken with a generous pinch of salt. In particular, I was worried about all those claims made on behalf of eminent scientists who, he said, were enthusiastic about power transmission or were already investigating the theory. When I later got around to contacting several of them over the telephone, it appeared that in many cases Andrew's reports had been considerably exaggerated. Yet, for all that, I could not be angry with him; compared with the cautious and the calculating, Andrew Microwski was bubbling with life. 75 75
