CHAPTER EIGHT As we relaxed after our meal, Andrew began to tell me about his concern about the world's weather. He claimed that Russian scientists had built a Tesla transmitter and were using it to modify weather on a global scale. He even hinted that various intelligence agencies in Canada and the United States knew about these experiments and had begun to tabulate data on recent dramatic changes in storm centres, rainfall and winds. I was not sure how to react to all this. After all, I was no expert on the weather: most of my knowledge came from the pages in popular science magazines; but as far as I could remember there had been no reports of dramatic changes in the world's weather over the last few months. The best I could do would be to make a few phone calls to the weather experts and learn their opinions. As far as Andrew was concerned, however, North America's weather had definitely changed for the worse and it was all due to Tesla transmitters outside Riga. Over our coffee, I steered Andrew back to the topic of power transmission. I told him that I was having some difficulty in understanding Tesla and was worried by the lack of any hard evidence to back his claims. 'You've read about Tesla's experiments at Colorado Springs? He sent power around the earth faster than the speed of light,' Andrew said. 'Yes, I know he says that. But what worries me is that it isn't very scientific - I mean, he doesn't give much in the way of details.' 'But many scientists have studied Tesla's work,' Andrew went on. 'They are building Tesla transmitters all over the world. A young engineer named Tim Richardson is building a transmitter right here in Canada, at Timmins, Ontario. He will be able to transmit power to groups in the United States.' This was an exciting piece of news. As far as I could see a little hard data was worth several volumes of predictions and speculations. 'Thanks, that's really interesting,' I said. 'Can you let me have Richardson's address and phone number?' 'Certainly. We've got a great deal of information for you if you'd only ask. Did you know that Dr Arthur Matthews, who is living near Quebec City, helped Tesla with many of his experiments? The American Air Force is also very interested in Tesla.' I tried to steer the conversation back to the transmitter. I'm having 76
